Women of the ELCA
WELCA Purpose Statement
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world. WELCA at St. John’s
WELCA meets on the 4th Sunday of each month following the 10 AM worship service in the Luther Hall library. Please see the monthly newsletter for up to date information on date changes. We have a brief devotion, prayers, offering, and a business meeting. Throughout the year we work on service projects, crafts, and have fellowship. We are always looking for new ways to serve our community and our church. Please come and share your ideas.
Yearly Activities
Examples of our yearly activities are a Christmas cookie exchange, hosting a concession stand at the Apple Harvest Parade, a soup and salad sale, an ice cream social, and a women’s banquet. We also participate in several synodical events throughout the year with our Potomac Cluster.
